Our Approach

Human focused therapy.

With an emphasis on growth mindset, our human focused approach empowers individuals, couples and families to better navigate their life experiences and address their core needs. We focus on understanding the perspective of our clients and collaboratively design training plans that supports them in creating solutions that truly meet their individual needs and goals. We use “training plan” instead of treatment plan because we believe that therapy is for the brain what exercise is for the body. We must actively train our minds to challenge belief systems that could be contributing to our human suffering. Through acceptance, commitment, and self-discipline you can improve the quality of your lives, enhance your experiences, and develop meaningful relationships which are all essential to psychological health.

Growth mindset.

With our approach we aim to grow your mindset through intervention and providing you with practical skills needed to recreate your story by offering a new perspective and belief system. Our belief systems begin in early childhood and are created from our life experiences. Without proper intervention we can deepen our faulty belief systems and it becomes the lens in which we view and perceive the world around us. We aim to offer a new perspective by challenging those beliefs and rewriting your story. We encourage choice empowerment—taking initiative of your life by choosing differently, maintaining healthier habits, and sustaining meaningful connections with yourself and others. One of the necessary ingredients in life is meaningful connection. In order to cultivate connection with others we must first establish a secure connection and relationship with ourselves. Let’s grow your mindset together; because whatever it is, the way you tell your story can make all the difference.

We are currently offering virtual sessions for all clients. With the right approach and mindset, virtual sessions can be as effective and intimate as in-person, often times even preferred as they allow for the ability to connect from a place of comfort. Kristin Quihuis started KLQ Therapy Services in 2022 because she wanted to move away from cold, clinical models and put the focus back on the person. We believe therapy is like exercise for your brain. This is why we use active training plans rather than passive treatment strategies. By combining Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with a growth-oriented approach, we help you challenge old beliefs and build the mental flexibility you need to thrive. Our goal is to help you take charge of your own path by providing a partnership where you can align your daily choices with your true values and find a genuine sense of connection.
